A Journey of Mindfulness and Compassion

Supawan Green is a renowned Buddhist author, Tai Chi and meditation teacher, who has dedicated her life to promoting mindfulness and compassion. Born in 1954 in Bangkok, Thailand, she graduated with an Honour Degree in Sociology from Thammasat University in 1977. Since her student years, she has been an active participant in Buddhism and has practiced as an ordained nun for three months in the northern Thai province of Payao and spent a further three months alone in a cave doing meditation. Her journey towards becoming a mindfulness advocate began during her time as a patient counsellor at Bangkok General Hospital in 1978, where she guided patients to do meditation to ease their worries and mental pain over their illnesses.

After her experience at the hospital, Supawan went on to work with various refugee camps under the umbrella of the UNHCR. She worked with unaccompanied minors in a Cambodian refugee camp, Vietnamese Boat people, and Hmong refugees, where she witnessed firsthand the power of mindfulness and compassion in helping individuals who were facing immense trauma and hardship. She spent a total of two years working with refugees before moving to England in 1981, where she got married and started a family.

In 1981, she moved to England after being married to her British husband whom she met in the Cambodian refugee camp and soon after became a mother of her three sons. Despite her young family commitment, she continued to contribute her spiritual knowledge through her writing and by teaching Tai Chi and meditation at the University of Birmingham so that she could spread her humanitarian work to wider audience.

Supawan has written over 40 published books in both Thai and English. A few of her Thai books, especially the Thai version of ‘Einstein Questions, Buddha Answers’, were bestsellers in Thailand. She skilfully used the new innovation of both language and illustrations to present the Buddha’s core teaching in her latest book title: ‘The Four Noble Truths’, printed in 2018.

Some of her interesting published books in English are ‘The User Guide to Life: The Moral Diet’ and ‘The Law of Karma’ that cover a wide range of day to day life issues for which most people cannot find the answers. Some of her works have been translated into French, Japanese, Chinese, German and Dutch.

Besides writing, Supawan also gives talks and conducts seminars that include meditation (bring your mental self back home) and use Tai Chi movements as a nonreligious way to ease people’s mental pain. She is well known for her no-nonsense style which makes her teaching unique: the ability to simplify profound Buddhist jargon into much easier concepts with clear illustrations and metaphors making it accessible for modern people who are searching for mental refuge. Supawan has helped her students to know exactly how to find inner peace. Supawan has been teaching for the past twenty years in various venues such as universities, temples in the UK and Thailand, and further a field such as Singapore, Malaysia, Cameroon, USA, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Norway, Belgium, The Netherlands and Australia.

Supawan is so confident that her formula for World Peace by way of bringing our mental self back home is a brand new hope for humankind to live in peace and harmony.

Supawan’s journey towards promoting mindfulness and compassion has taken her all around the world, where she has shared her knowledge and wisdom with countless individuals seeking inner peace and tranquillity.

Supawan Green’s journey is a testament to the power of mindfulness and compassion. Her work has touched the lives of many individuals, providing them with the tools they need to overcome hardship and find peace within themselves.

Her teachings remind us of the importance of self-care and compassion, for ourselves and for others, and that mindfulness and compassion are essential components of a fulfilling and meaningful life.
