28 Days in Japan

That was the original title I planed to write following my return from Japan in July 1999. My former Tai chi student, Annalise, invited me to visit her while she was working as an English teacher in Kyoto as she knew this trip would benefit me in giving me the opportunity to observe the Japanese as well as the Zen culture.

During my stay mainly in Kyoto, I was also welcomed into a very kind Japanese family, Oyabu and Michio who lived with their 5-year-old daughter and Michio’s mother. They had a very unique house in the country, a small town called Omihashiman by lake Biwa, some 30 miles from Kyoto. The following were my last few days in Japan when I went to Tokyo visiting Kumi who was also my Tai chi student. After writing the events of those few days, which were still fresh in my mind at the time, I was hoping to complete my diary as I initially intended to but I never made it. It has now been over 5 years, I don’t thing I will ever complete this diary.

So, I decide to release all I have to you. I hope you enjoy reading them. My gratitude to Annalise and a few of my other Tai chi students who kindly sponsored me and made my trip to Japan become possible. My thanks and appreciation also go to Ayako and Michio Oyabu, Kumi, Eiichiro and all the people I mentioned in my diary especially Annalise who made my stay in Japan really enjoyable and meaningful.
