Laying the Groundwork

Dear all,

I must apologise for my recent silence. I’ve been busy with caring for my Thai students and managing the Innocent Perception Centre in Thailand from my home in the UK. I’ve also been rethinking how I can best help people which I will tell you about in time.

As you already know that my website has changed to the new brand name Innocent Perception. The reason is that I feel it better encapsulates the essence of Buddha’s teaching. I will try my best to build my spiritual knowledge based on this term.

Some of you might be aware that I’ve been sharing the core teachings of Buddha for nearly three decades since my first book was published in Thailand. This journey began with what I call my ‘Eureka experience’ while teaching Tai Chi at Birmingham University in 1997. During a Monday afternoon, I experienced the enlightening state the Buddha called Nirvana. After rigorously testing my experience for about eighteen months to ensure I wasn’t delusional, I shared my revelation in my first published book, ‘A Handful of Leaves’. I felt compelled to write the book, as you’ll discover if you read the foreword. This marked the beginning of my journey leading up to the establishment many years later of my own Meditation Centre.

Having personally experienced Nirvana is one thing, but sharing the message that anyone can access Nirvana for themselves is another, especially considering it’s a privilege typically reserved for monks – not a housewife and mother like myself of no notable social status. However, once I became aware, I couldn’t ignore the immense inner calling to share and guide others toward Nirvana as it had happened to me. I knew it would be a challenge but even if I could help one person to experience Nirvana, it would be worth the effort. I started writing in Thai first as a form of keeping a diary reflecting my insights.

That was 37 years ago. I came up with the term ‘innocent perception’ to better help people understand Nirvana and in turn giving them easier access to enlightenment.

I look forward to sharing more with you next time.

Warm regards,

Supawan
