Newsletter No. 5 | Sunday 12th May 2024 | The Confirmation from a Local Guide
Dear all,
The distinction between the local and non-local guide is that one knows the place of destination, and one doesn’t. Unlike a physical place, a spiritual destination is nonphysical and has no signpost like ‘welcome to Nirvana’ or a GPS voice saying ‘you have reached your destination’. This is the very reason why one needs a local guide who can pinpoint exactly the state of Nirvana, God, and Tao.
Having had more experiences along this spiritual journey, I can now see clearly that many meditation practitioners have arrived at their spiritual destination but don’t know it. Without the wisdom from a local guide, it’s almost impossible for them to know unless they go through the state of self-enlightenment. That was how I knew.
The devout Buddhists, having understood the Noble Truth of Suffering and having going through mental pain themselves, all wish for enlightenment and to end the rebirth, the same as ending all suffering. They follow piously in Buddha’s footsteps and guidance. They observe moral codes and diligently work on meditation with the hope of being enlightened. It is as if they carry their ruck-sack loaded with a pestle and mortar and climb this steep mountain, aiming for the zenith. After lots of hard work, they finally reach the zenith, but there was no signpost saying: ‘Welcome to Nirvana National Park’. Although these spiritual tourists are desperate to put down their heavy ruck-sacks, set up the tents and enjoy the stunning scenery, they can’t because they want to ensure they reach the destination first. So, they walk around the park with a heavy load and try to find the specific place of destination. Then, they spot an old man.
Spiritual tourist: Hello, uncle. We’re looking for Nirvana National Park. It’s been a long, tough journey, and we’re desperate to get there. Please kindly point us in the right direction.
Old man: Indeed, you have arrived, young man! You’re standing right on it. You can put your ruck-sacks down, set up your tent, relax and enjoy the wonderful scenery.
Spiritual tourist: Oh wow, really…we’ve finally arrived! Thank you.
This is exactly the predicament facing so many diligent practitioners. All they want is to reach Nirvana and meditate heavily, including me. Most people have reached the state of ‘Void’ in meditation but don’t have a clue that it is Nirvana, not until they stumble onto a local guide for confirmation.
Having been through this spiritual predicament myself for fifteen years until my own eureka experience, I told myself that I would deliver the message the way I would have wanted to be taught. This is why I had enough courage to coin Nirvana as Innocent Perception and place it alongside other big words: God, Tao, and the Ultimate Truth. Source, due to its recent popularity among the spiritual community, is being added to my bucket of big words.
Best wishes,
Supawan
